Analysis of MDA Frequency in Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire
Optimization of Mass Drug Administration with Existing Drug Regimens for Lymphatic Filariasis and Onchocerciasis for Liberia
Study Sites: Foya & Harper, Liberia
The objective of this study is to compare the treatment effect of MDA with Albendazole and Ivermectin delivered once per year to MDA delivered twice per year. At the Foya study site, S. mansoni infection rates are extremely high, so in coordination with the Liberian Ministry of Health Praziquantel has been added to the MDA study in order to evaluate once and twice per year MDA on schistosomiasis. The final follow-up survey at the Harper site will be completed in summer 2016. The Ebola crisis interrupted our work at our Foya site. Treatment has resumed and the research is on track to be completed by early 2017.
Comparison of Filariasis Binax Test and Alere Strip Test
Cross-sectional Community Surveillance Using Filarial Antigen and Microfilaria Tests in Post Mass Drug Administered Areas
Study Site: Foya, Liberia
Side by side comparisons of the two tests were performed in a field study done in Lofa County. Results from this study agree with similar studies from other sites that find the Alere test strips are more sensitive than the Binax Now test.
